About the Artist

Hello!

I’m Sophia, a British-Dutch artist and writer based in the beautiful county of Norfolk. From an early age, I've had a deep connection to art, and even during my career in book publishing and now as a writer, I still take a great deal of pleasure in my artistic pursuits. I graduated from Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2007, and later went on to graduate from Wimbledon College of Art in 2011. More recently, I obtained my masters in creative writing, which holds much significance for me as I find that writing often inspires my art, and vice versa. The two are inextricably linked.
Beyond the depths of my imagination, my painting and drawing is influenced by a passion for the natural world around me. I have an affectionate love of nature and animals, so you’ll often find me painting landscapes filled with flowers or tiny creatures – I am partial to painting intricate details, so that something new and interesting might catch your eye every time each time you view a piece of my work. My desire is to create pieces that inspire love and beauty, that capture a refreshing freedom away from digital technology and the stress of everyday life. Art should feel like an escape, a moment of pure solitude for the observer.

I have a real fondness for painting pet portraits. There is such joy to be found in capturing the personality of a beloved animal - I love working on personal commissions and making my customers happy when they see their very own companion immortalised in art.
Before I begin on a piece for a customer, I work on getting myself into the right headspace, a magical, witchy one, if you will. This means that my art is filled with positive energy, love and healing. I have always felt that art contains such strong energy and emotion, that for me it’s important to infuse it with something wonderful.

‘I have nature and art and poetry, and if that is not enough, what is enough?’
